FIRST Robotics Enterprise operates on the principle that college students take responsibility for the actions of the Enterprise by making decisions that better the team. The involvement of the Faculty Advisor is minimal; he is available to keep the team on track, make suggestions, and to help coordinate events affecting the Enterprise.
Our mission is to link grade school, high school, college, and the professional world through robotic education. We will stimulate students' interests in the fields of science and technology by participating in the annual FIRST Robotics competition, FIRST Vex Challenge and FIRST Lego League. We will promote teamwork and leadership throughout every aspect of our program and will always conduct ourselves in a businesslike manner, with Gracious Professionalism.
The main project of the FIRST Robotics Enterprise is mentoring FIRST Robotics Team #857, Superior Roboworks. Approximately 15 high school students and one high school physics teacher participate from Houghton High School. College students from FRE act as mentors to these students, guiding them as they build their annual robot and, more importantly, their team.
Serving as both mentors and role models, college team members will use their knowledge and experience to help high school aged students participate in the annual FIRST Lego League, FIRST VEX Challenge, and FIRST Robotics competitions. By supporting these activities we will inspire students to appreciate and explore engineering, science, technology, mathematics, and education.
Mentors will work hard to introduce students to positive role models, prepare students to take on leadership roles in the future, promote teamwork skills, and increase community awareness of engineering education opportunities. We will work to promote the ideals of FIRST and act with Gracious Professionalism in all that we do.
General meetings occur every other Wednesday beginning the first week of every semester and continuing every even week through the end of the semester. During these meetings, important issues are brought to the table so every member can give their input before a decision is made.
Meetings will be held in 204 Dillman Hall at 5:00 during the fall semester, and in the ATDC conference room at 5:00 pm during the spring semester. These general Enterprise meetings are expected to last one hour. Meeting day and time are subject to change, at the discretion of the Enterprise Leadership.
For specific meeting dates and times, please see our Calendar.
